Veliaj: We will rebuild the two schools "Edith Durham" and "Petro Nini"

The field teams of the Municipality of Tirana are continuing the work for the requalification of residential neighborhoods in the area of the former Block, in Unit 5. Mayor Erion Veliaj inspected the works in the area bordered by the streets "Sami Frashëri", "Pjetër Bogdani", "Andon Zako Çajupi" and "Moskat". He emphasized that interventions will be made mainly in the underground network, to precede the seasonal rains. Veliaj said that a solution will also be given to the entrance to the neighborhood, since with the construction of buildings after the 90s, emergency cases were not considered.
"Today, the area of the former Block is surrounded by buildings and a large part of the problem during the winter, with the rains, comes from the fact that the underground infrastructure is made for a smaller number of residents. Currently, the number of residents here has reached its peak and the sewers are no longer holding. Therefore, we will go to a much higher discharge capacity. Despite the fact that at first glance the surface looks relatively good, we must focus on the underground. We have had many problems with the buildings built and legalized in the "Moskateve" area. There is no thought for the exit part, especially for the emergency entrance in the old buildings. If this has become possible in the new neighborhoods, being conceived from the beginning, here we need to find a momentary solution, since it was not thought of during the chaos of the 90s", said Veliaj.
He added that the entire summer period, when the residents are on vacation, will be used, so that the works for the requalification of the area will be completed on time. Veliaj asked residents to be understanding about parking, recommending the municipal parking lot at the "Selman Stërmasi" stadium.
"There are 100 fireplaces that we want to organize before people return from vacation. The roads are a little easier for heavy vehicles and heavy vehicles to access. I will ask all residents to be understanding about parking issues. They can park near the "Dinamo" stadium, there is a municipal parking lot. I believe that we will have the first test in November-December, when the rains start, and we will understand how the new drainages and sewers are working", said Veliaj.
The mayor invited parents to register their children in schools, kindergartens and nurseries near their homes, which are built to the same standards as those in the center. He also gave the good news that during the year the work will start on the reconstruction of the "Edith Durhami" and "Petro Nini Luarasi" schools.
"I invite the citizens to respect the decisions of the Administrative Unit when it comes to registration for schools, kindergartens and nurseries. I know there are still people who with the mentality of the 80s and 90s think that one school is better than the other, but all schools, kindergartens and nurseries are the same, with teachers and educators from the portal. The good news is that we will start the construction of the "Edith Durham" school and we have to transfer the students to "Emin Duraku". The schools of the former block, which until yesterday were elite, today look outdated compared to the more than 40 new modern schools we have built in Tirana. We will also build "Petro Ninin" because that school also has the pleasure of being like "Qemal Stafa", like "Sami Frashëri", like "Partizani", but to do this, we will need cooperation", said Veliaj.
The project of the Municipality of Tirana in the residential block in Unit 5, includes the reconstruction of the streets "Moskat" and "Andon Zako Çajupi", with intervention in the asphalt and pavement layers. Also, the Municipality will enable the systemization of the internal space of the block, as well as the access of the neighborhood by the fire department in case of emergency. The project also envisages the construction of a new road, which connects "Moskat" road with the residential block, to give it the necessary breath, facilitating the entry and exit of cars. In order to prevent problems from the rains, the existing wells will be cleaned and an end well will be opened to make the connection with the existing network.
