
Albanian director and screenwriter Piro Milkani has passed away at the age of 86. The news was confirmed by his son, director Eno Milkani, through an announcement on social media.
Born on December 9, 1939 in Korça, Milkani completed his higher education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in the field of cinematography. After returning to Albania, he became involved in the cinematographic industry and made a significant contribution to its development.
During his career, he made over 20 feature films and documentaries, including titles such as “When a Day Dawned” (1971), “The Lady from the City” (1976), “Face to Face” (1979) and “The Colors of Age” (1990). He worked as a director, screenwriter, cinematographer and producer, covering several aspects of the creative process.
In 1987, he was awarded the title of “People's Artist” for his contribution to the field of art. In 1997, he was awarded the “Special Award” for his creativity at the Euro-Festival of Saint-Étienne in France. In 2024, he officially received his diploma from the Film Faculty in Prague, 63 years after completing his studies.
Piro Milkani is considered one of the founding figures of Albanian cinematography and has had a significant influence on its formation over the decades.
