Research suggests that a person's IQ during high school can predict alcohol consumption later in life.

Individuals with higher IQ scores are more likely to drink moderately, or heavily, than others.

The research, based on the Wisconsin Longitudinal Study, showed a 1.6% increase in the odds of moderate or heavy drinking with each IQ point increase. So, the more intelligent in adolescence, the more addicted to alcohol at a later age.

This relationship between intelligence and alcohol is partially related to income, as those who earn more have more money to spend and a wider network to meet.
