Excessive consumption of red meat increases the risk of dementia! What to replace it with

A new study suggests that excessive consumption of processed red meat may have detrimental effects on brain health, increasing the risk of dementia and accelerating cognitive aging.
The research, conducted by scientists from Harvard, MIT and Mass General Brigham, analyzed data from thousands of patients between 1980 and 2018 and found that each serving of processed red meat (about 85 grams) can lead to an increase in cognitive aging by about 1.6 years.
Researchers also showed that replacing red meat with other protein sources, such as nuts and legumes, could reduce the risk of dementia by 19% and cognitive decline by 21%.
This study has sparked discussions about the importance of diet for brain health, highlighting that while there are clear links to other diseases, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, the impact of red meat consumption on cognitive health still requires further research to better understand the mechanisms behind these effects.
