Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has terminal cancer.
Eriksson, 75, spoke in a radio interview where he indicated that at best, he still has a year to live.
"Everyone understands that I have a disease that is not good. Everyone thinks it's cancer and it actually is. However, I have to fight as long as I can," he said.
Eriksson was running 5 km the day before he went to the hospital. One day he experienced a collapse and lost consciousness.
"It just came out of nowhere. I had a visit and it came out with cancer. So I was shocked. I'm not in a lot of pain. But I've been diagnosed with a disease that you can slow down, but you can't operate on. So it is what it is," he added. .
Between 2001 and 2006, Eriksson led the so-called 'golden generation' of footballers in the England squad, including David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard.
He led England to three consecutive quarter-finals at major tournaments and coached one of their most famous results, a 5-1 win over Germany in Munich in September 2001.
Eriksson resigned as sporting director at Swedish club Karistad Football 11 months ago due to health problems.
