Scientists develop device that transmits the taste of food from cooking shows
If you've ever watched a cooking show and wanted to enjoy the food on screen, it will soon be possible thanks to a new technological device
Scientists have developed a lickable VR device that can deliver a taste created in the virtual world.
Flavor delivery systems in the form of a lick are capable of producing up to 9 different flavors. Currently, this includes the flavors of sugar, salt, citric acid, cherry, passion fruit, green tea, milk, citrus and durian. Each of the flavors is created using food-flavored chemicals stored inside bags of agarose gel – a gel usually derived from red algae.
When a voltage is applied to the lick, chemicals are released on the surface of the gel into a liquid that mixes with saliva on the tongue to produce taste.
