An antibiotic that fights superbugs has been created by Artificial Intelligence
American researchers used the help of AI to develop an antibiotic that will be used effectively in the treatment of the superbug known as "Acinetobacter baumannii".
The researchers reported that through the AI model, they analyzed 6,680 components that they had never encountered before.
After analyzing 240 of these components in detail, the scientists announced that they had discovered 8 new potential antibiotics and a new antibacterial molecule that forms "abaucin".
Researchers who tested this new molecule on mice injected with superbugs found that it fought the infection.
Jonathan Stokes, a faculty member in the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences at McMaster University, said the model in question demonstrates the importance of using artificial intelligence in antibiotic discovery.
The details of the study have been published in the journal "Nature Chemical Biology".
