Children who consume these 3 foods are more likely to develop diabetes
Children who are predisposed to develop type 1 diabetes and consume bananas, oats and yogurt are more likely to develop this disease, states a study presented by the British Guardian newspaper. Conversely, those who eat strawberries, blueberries and some green vegetables (broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower) are at lower risk, the same study found.
Wheat products also increase the risk of this autoimmune type of diabetes in predisposed children, the study of children in Finland found.
The professor who led the study said that the fact that some fruits contain traces of pesticides may also explain why some of them increase and others decrease the risk of developing type 1 diabetes, analyzed Suvi Virtanen and her colleagues at the Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare.
However, it is too early to make dietary recommendations for infants and young children based on the findings of this study.
