In Bulgaria, a 182-kilometer-long gas interconnector was put into operation today, which will transport gas from Azerbaijan to Greece, and in this way the region will receive an alternative supply of Russian gas.

The inauguration was attended by senior officials from the region, as well as the presidents of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Azerbaijan, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić requested the same treatment for Serbia as for EU countries, due to high energy prices.

He congratulated the Bulgarian and Greek leaders and said he was sorry that no one believed in the importance of this project.

"I believe that we will have a difficult winter and autumn, even more difficult than (European Commission) Ursula Von der Leyen said here. I had a dilemma before I came here about how she would treat me, but she was very kind. I feel a bit like the 'black sheep' here in the company of friends and I have to thank him even though I don't want to flatter him. She helped us a lot when she talked about building a link between Serbia and Bulgaria and then North Macedonia," said Vučić and added that without the EU's infrastructure and support, these goals would never have been achieved.
