Trump one step away from arrest. A lawsuit is filed against him, the first in history against a former American president
He warned himself about two weeks ago when he said "I will be arrested on Tuesday".
It seems that Trump's words were not unfounded. He has been indicted by a Manhattan grand jury. The case is not about classified documents that were found in his office, but about payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to buy the silence of a pornographic actress about allegations of extramarital affairs.
This is the first time that a former US president has been sued.
Trump is running to retake the White House in 2024, so he sees this as an attack to undermine his victory.
"This is political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history.
The Democrats have lied and cheated in their efforts to shoot Trump. But now they have done the unthinkable, filing charges against a completely innocent person, in a blatant act of election interference," Trump's statement on his Truth Social social network reads.
