Rail services in France were disrupted on Christmas Eve after a driver committed suicide by jumping from his train while it was moving, a judicial source said today.
"Automatic railway safety procedures ensured that the train stopped," the prosecution added.
Train delays were reported, affecting more than 3,000 passengers.
SNCF, France's state-owned railway company, confirmed the death of the driver yesterday afternoon on the southeastern high-speed line. "He took his own life while the train was moving," the railway company told Le Parisien.
"All railway companies are in mourning," SNCF said.
