Italians who will use English in official communications will be fined 100,000

Italian officials who use English or other foreign languages in official communications can face fines of up to 100,000 euros.

This is what is said in the new draft law presented by the "Brothers of Italy" Party, of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

The bill is expected to ban all foreign languages, but it seems the focus is more on the use of English words.

The draft states that "the use of this language disgraces and insults the Italian language," and that the situation is further aggravated by the fact that Great Britain is not part of the European Union.

The draft law, which has not yet come up for parliamentary debate, requires that anyone who holds a position in the public administration have "written and spoken knowledge of the Italian language".
