3 months summer vacation from school is too much. Italian parents petition

Is 3 months of summer without school too much? On the eve of the summer holidays, Italian parents are complaining. A petition created by the non-profit organization World, Sarah Malnerich and Francesca Fiore, authors and activists of the blog

Holy shit, it's signed by many parents.

"Let's review the calendar!"

The requests are based on changing the school calendar and reducing the duration of vacations

of summer. A petition was originally launched on Change.org on September 7, 2023, shortly before school returned after the summer holidays and is still ongoing. In 7 months he collected more than 33 thousand 600 signatures.

According to their explanation, the long separation from school brings:

"loss of skills, increasing inequalities and cases of school dropouts, above all for those coming from more unfavorable socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and a heavy burden on families, great difficulties in balancing work-life, which it weighs especially on mothers".

The requirements are two concrete. The first is that schools are also open in the months of June and July with extracurricular activities and the second is compulsory and full-time education for children from 3 to 14 years old. Full-time means the inclusion of 8 hours, that is, eating lunch and doing homework at school.
