A French thriller wins the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival

French murder mystery film Anatomy of a Fall has taken home the top prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Director Justine Triet won the Palme d'Or for the drama that tells the story of a writer accused of murdering her husband.
She becomes the third female director to win the prestigious award, which was first presented in 1955.
The thriller has the German actress Sandra Hüller as its protagonist.
While accepting the award, Triet criticized the French government for its response to recent pension protests.
