Today, August 4, 2024, the elections for the new Mayor are being held in Himare. In the race are Vangjel Tavo from the Socialist Party and Petro Gjikuria, supported by the Democratic Party and other opposition parties.
From the elections of May 14, 2023, Fredi Beleri was the winner of the process, but he did not manage to exercise his duties because two days before the elections, he was arrested by the police on the charge of electoral corruption.
He was sentenced to two years of imprisonment, thus losing his mandate, while today about 23 thousand voters with the right to vote in Himare will choose one of the candidates, Gjikurija or Tavos.
The voting process in Himare started at 07:00 and will end at 19:00.
By 8:00, 2.8% had voted, according to the CEC.
There was suspension of the process in some polling stations due to expired ID cards. CEC has decided not to vote with expired cards.
