The Democratic Party has issued a statement on Tuesday claiming that the newly elected mayor of Vau i Dejes, Mark Babani has hidden 3 identities, with one identified as Ylli Saimir Babaj. The DP claims that Babani has been arrested, charged and deported from Italy and North Macedonia. The DP has alleged that Babani was arrested in Italy during 1994-1999 and in North Macedonia during 2002-2003. From 1994-2005, he has allegedly traveled to Italy using his identity.
The DP claims that Babani has lied in his decriminalization form, declaring that he has lived in Italy for 5 years. However, based on the verification of the TIMS system, from 1994-1999 Babani has never traveled to Italy using his real identity, which DP claims, shows that the data previously declared is false.
In light of the allegations, Babani has reacted for Report TV, stating that the DP claims are false, adding that he has never been detained and/or arrested or has made any attempt to change his name, apart from a mutual decision with his family to change the last name from Babaj (Mark Babaj), to Babani. The latter also said that he was willing to cooperate with the Prosecution’s Office, if further clarifications are needed.
This is the third time the DP has denounced the suspicious pasts of the Albanian mayors, starting with Valdrin Pjetri, mayor of Shkodra scandal, and until recently the case of the the mayor of Vora, Agim Kajmaku. In both instances, the Prosecution’s office is carrying out the necessary verification and the investigations into both Pjetri and Kajmaku are ongoing. Tiranapost.al
