Speaking at the Second Regional Forum on “Ending Violence Against Women in the Western Balkans and Turkey: Implementing Norms, Changing Minds” on Wednesday, prime minister Edi Rama has warned that the government is drafting a proposal leading to stricter measures against perpetrators of domestic violence.
” I agree with the efforts and resources made available to centers for the treatment of women, domestic violence, but we must also think about rehabilitation centers for men who abuse women. We need to do more to hold men accountable, ” said Rama.
He indicated that he has received numerous messages from women who felt threatened and unprotected, and said that men who were likely to behave badly should leave their homes and be isolated.
” We must offer women direct protection. I receive numerous messages from ordinary people everyday, a woman who feels lonely, abandoned, threatened, this is disturbing, it is not enough just to say ‘go report’, we must offer a guarantee, a support that should be direct. People who are likely to be violent should leave their homes and be isolated”, he said. Tiranapost.al
