Prime minister Edi Rama took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce that the government has fulfilled another request made by university students in the country. According to Rama, the implementation of the Student Card by the municipality is another commitment that the government has met.
Earlier this week, Mayor Erion Veliaj said that the Student Card stipulates great discount and favorable services in the public and private sector for all students.
The student card was an obligation of the universities themselves, but they did not make this happen, which is what forced the Municipality to see the process through. According to the Universities’ Pact, the Municipality of Tirana and Ministry of Education are taking care of this process for the students that are studying in the capital.
“The private sector is also included in the project. There are a number of products that facilitate the life of a student. Shopping centers will have discounts of 20-30% for products used by students. Dental services, sportswear, optical products, stationary, hi-tech products etc. The project was also joined by the bar-restaurant community where there will be discounts for students. Student cards can be obtained for free. There will be an internet page regarding student cards. I am happy that we managed to achieve this day”, said Veliaj.
Minister Shahini, stated that the Student Card is a promise of a decade ago.
“This is a promise of a decade ago. This was demanded in the university education law, since 2007. For the Student Cards to be achieved, there should have been a better collaboration between universities and institutions. The Ministry, together with the Municipality of Tirana have made Student Cards a reality.”, said Minister Shahini./Tiranapot/D.D
