The Municipality of Tirana has initiated more investments in restoring and rebuilding a number of preschools, kindergartens and day care centers as a result of growing demands of parents to enroll their children in these institutions. The municipality has invested in increasing capacity, and rebuilding and adding new facilities. Mayor Veliaj was joined by the Unit 10 MP Fatmir Xhafaj when visiting ‘Pranverat’ kindergarten, to inspect the works currently being carried out in the premises. Following completion, the capacity in this kindergarten will increase from 150 to 250 children attending. Veliaj stated that the high demand for kindergartens and public preschools is an appreciation for the work done so far, but also a greater responsibility to respond to citizens’ requests.
Veliaj also stated that in order to reduce the demand for public institutions and overcrowding, work is being done to set up kindergartens near large private companies.
“This year will be innovative: As required by law and as is the tradition in all EU countries, companies with a fixed number of employees, over 100 employees, such as telecommunications companies, banks etc., will start setting up kindergartens and day care centers in their premises. It’s a way to make sure that the working parent is very close to where his or her child is raised, but also to remove the burden on the city, ”Veliaj added.
Veliaj also appealed to all parents to enroll their children in the schools closest to their residences. Whereas the SP MP in Unit 10, Fatmir Xhafaj said that this is very good news, as the capacity will increase from 150 to 250 in ‘Pranverat’. Xhafaj stated that this is an indication of the growing interest of the people, as well as the ability of the municipality to better manage the funds and citizens’taxes, in view of the problems and concerns they have”.
