Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj attended the ‘Bridge for Cities 4.0’ conference in Vienna, along with other mayors from around the world, where he talked about the successful UN assessment of Tirana, as one among 10 cities with the best financial performance. Veliaj stated that this assessment is an encouragement for the next four years, for Tirana to turn into not only the most important economic hub in Albania, but throughout the region.
“ It’s true that we are not really a rich city, but compared to what we found and where we are today, we’ve done a lot together. I am very proud of the citizens of Tirana, who treat the city as their family. The UN assessment, as one of the cities with the best economic performance, is an encouragement for us all together, over the next four years, to turn Tirana into not only the most important economic hub of Albania, but most likely, in the most important economic hub of the entire Balkan region, “ said Veliaj.
During the meeting, the mayor presented some of the initiatives taken to boost Tirana’s economy, and also talked about the challenges.
“The municipality of Tirana is responsible for 50% of the country’s economy and has had the largest economic growth of any region of Albania. According to INSTAT, Tirana Municipality and District has increased over 10%. That means we have to be prepared to sustain this growth. ” he said. Veliaj also met with LI Yong, the UN Director-General for Industrial Development. Photos below / Tiranapost.al
