More than 2,000 students of the Polytechnic University of Tirana have been provided with the Student Card, thus benefiting from a range of free or low-cost services. The head of the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku and Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, Vladi Koliçi, closely followed the continuation of the application process and the withdrawal of the card from university students.
Mayor Veliaj expressed his satisfaction for the progress of the process at this University and added that right now, more than 10,000 cards have been distributed. “We have gone beyond 10 thousand for all students in Tirana, so this is a good start. I hope that by the end of June, but also in July, when the season continues, we will be able to distribute all the cards, “Veliaj said.
Veliaj emphasized that thanks to the self offering of a number of private entities and businesses, the number of services which students benefit from, has increased considerably.
“We currently have about 50-60 products or discounts for public services of the municipality, the Ministry of Culture, and other entities, mainly focusing on public services for students, almost as much from private companies: mainly stationary, clothing stores, supermarkets, restaurants, and other electronic services to help students, “added Veliaj.
The mayor underlined that work on the distribution of cards will continue during the remaining weeks before the students go off to their summer vacations, so that every student has access to the range of services offered through this special document.
“We want to keep up this pace all summer. At the last meeting of the City Council we created a separate agency, which is the Student Card Agency for the City of Tirana. If this project, as it has been operating so far, finishes successfully, then it will be an example, that is, a model, for other municipalities that can adopt it well, as we have already set up the database which has been functioning quite well”, said the head of the Municipality of Tirana.
Minister of Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku said that the interest shown by the students on the card is high, and announced that the ministry she leads, through the institutions or entities related to it, will provide additional services for the students .
“Interest is high for this card, as it is something that will help all students, because the list that i saw has all services that are absolutely necessary for the students. Through the Ministry we can facilitate this process with the entities that are related to us, and continue to add to the list of entities that offer card services, “Balluku concluded. / Tiranapost.al.
