The Socialist Party Mayor-elect of the city of Shkodra , Valdrin Pjetri, took to Facebook on Thursday to resign from his post, following recent allegations of the Democratic Party of a criminal past, such as involvement in drug trafficking and arrest in Italy in 2003, which Pjetri has adamantly denied. Prime Minister Edi Rama, has distanced himself and the Socialist Party from Pjetri, arguing that so long as there are such allegations floating around, he would not be offering his or his party’s support to Pjetri.
“Under these conditions, my attention and energy will now be entirely focused on the legal resolution and clarification of the event of 17 years ago, an event for which, to my knowledge, I have had no legal responsibility at the time. Aware of the importance of the political image and determined to undertake this legal explanation in the position of an ordinary citizen, without burdening anyone, I decide to resign from the post of Mayor of Shkodra ”, Pjetri wrote on Facebook.
The latter ‘s statement concludes by expressing gratitude to all those who supported him, stating that “the destiny of a city should never be inevitably tied to the destiny of an individual.” Tiranapost.al
