Albania’s Acting Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs met on Tuesday with his Austrian counterpart , Alexander Schallenberg. During the joint press conference, the ministers focused on Albania’s efforts to open accession talks with the European Union.
The Austrian minister said his country has been and is strongly supportive of Albania’s path to EU accession, adding that this stance will be more active in the future. Schallenberg also stated that Austria will offer its assistance to all those affected by the September 21st earthquake, providing 200,000 euros for the earthquake relief efforts.
” In fact my visit is not a coincidence, we will have a crucial moment next week. In Austria we want the green light for Albania and North Macedonia to start accession talks. We will offer our opinion and do what we must do, but of course we have many difficult discussions ahead, as you know there is no unanimity yet, but rest assured that Albanians can count on us, we are firm in our opinion on the Albanian process”, said Schallenberg.
In regard to the upcoming Albanian OSCE presidency, Schallenberg stated that the duty ahead is a challenging one and Austria will be of support to Albania undoubtedly. Tiranapost.al
