In an interview for the show ‘ Perballe’ on Tuesday, former minister of foreign affairs, Ditmir Bushati discussed negotiations and the current political crisis, stating that three years ago it was unacceptable to be in the same ‘ basket’ as North Macedonia, whereas today the reality has a different face. Bushati also said that we have now been offered a ‘ dark option’, that of being in the same ‘ basket’ with Kosovo and Bosnia, which according to Bushati Albania does not deserve. Bushati’s suggestion to solve the political crisis that is hindering our European prospects is to ‘clearly define the national interest and separating ourselves from ‘ dark politics’.
” I think we should have a Pact for Europe, for Albania for the next ten years”, said Bushati, citing Bulgaria’s very similar circumstances in 1997, resulting in a clear plan to integrate the country into the EU within the next ten years.
“Despite who is currently heading the country, or what the name of the PM is, we want Albania to become a member of the EU within these ten years. We need a plan for human and financial resources. We need an excellent negotiating team, as we are capable of gathering a number of great diplomats. We need to determine who the civil servants of a certain level will be, who will be there and may not know the name of the minister or the deputy or anybody else, but they will be there until the day Albania becomes an EU member state. How many Albanians from the Diaspora will be there, and what will be the incentives we will use for this process. How will we work with businesses to accommodate European standards in practice in order to made this goal tangible. We need to build capacity in order to obtain projects, to fully utilize cohesion funds”, said Bushati. Tiranapost.al
