The Minister of Education, Sport and Youth, argued about all the steps that resulted in the verdict of discharging University of Tirana rector. She even mentioned the formal request made by her office to the president Meta. During an interview at Top Channel, Mrs. Shahini pointed out the violations made by Mr. Koni, and that all of them are documented. The minister then stated that all of this information was presented to the president Ilir Meta.
“The law foresees that in case the minister witnesses’ violations made by the rector, can propose his discharge. There exists no illegality here. In 2018, two group of inspectors audited the administration of the University of Tirana, and found a lot of violations. The senate and the board of directors have implemented the recommendations, while the rector didn’t follow up. The education bill separates the duties between the administrators and the academics of the university. Mr. Koni taken over responsibilities that aren’t his and by doing so has prevented various processes. The rector has made many violations regarding the employment of new professors. For example, he has prevented the use of the archive protocol. Considering all these violations, that harmed the university, a formal request was made to the president. I believe that the request is well-argumented and that the President will accept the discharge request.”
But will the ministry make an official indictment against the suspended rector?
“We will deal with all the steps at the right time. The first step has been taken; the request was sent to the presidential office. We will wait for his answer and then we will take action.”/Tiranapost/D.D
