During a hearing held on Monday, President of Albania Ilir Meta explained why Prime Minister Edi Rama and the chairman of Democratic Party Lulzim Basha were unable to sit in the negotiations table to solve the political stagnation just like they did back in 2017.
“ Despite my efforts, i faced two key obstacles. The first one is that Prime Minister Rama was stubborn in not discussing the possibility of postponing elections. Secondly, Lulzim Basha was also stubborn and refused to sit in a table with Rama as long as he was Prime Minister of the country. These requests were unacceptable for me. The situation was bad. Both parties refused to claim responsability. What is a President to do when both parties lean towards confrontation. This would represent a failure in guaranteeing the stability and credibility of the country,”Meta said.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Rama said that in 2017, he was willing to meet with Basha to not escalate the political situation, but the situation in 2019 was entirely different./Tiranapost.al/
