Former US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, returned to Kosovo to attend the 20th anniversary of the country’s liberation from the Serbian forces, after NATO’s intervention. Albright was honored with the Order of Freedom, for the contribution made to the liberation of Kosovo. Albright said she feels proud of what has been done for the people of Kosovo. The Former US Secretary of State has not forgotten the cheers of the people of Kosovo “Thank you America” in 1999.
I am very proud of everything you and we have done to make these things possible. I will not forget the time when I came to Pristina after the war, the crowds of people and the writings that said ‘Thank you United States of America’. I think the United States did the right thing when helping the people of Kosovo gain their freedom. I am very happy to be here with you today, to continue working hard for peace and democracy in Kosovo. Kosovo is an independent state and should be recognized as such. I am happy to be known as the person who contributed to it, as well as for all those little girls who are named Madeleine.
The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, said that Albright will always remain a hero for the people of Kosovo.
You have been and will always be the hero of the people of Kosovo for the commitment you have shown to prevent ethnic cleansing, the removal of people with violence from their homes and their property, to stop the evil, killings and deportations, to create a new life, peace, development, progress, harmony, multi-ethnicity to work for democratic reforms, for economic development, for the new lives of a new European country, for a secure future for NATO and the European Union. We have always had a special rapport with the United States, we are blessed as a country that both President Clinton and yourself, as secretary of the state, have returned to your home, with your family after 20 years to congratulate and celebrate together the 20th anniversary of freedom in Kosovo, the 20th anniversary of people’s hopes and beliefs directly related to your personal contribution to the democratic world, for the rights of Kosovo’s citizens, but at the same time to give us the identity and dignity we deserve, in order to live free and in peace in Kosovo, as the homeland of all its Albanian, Serbian, Montenegrin citizens. / Tiranapost.al.D.Xh
