Luxembourg summit, to announce today decision on EU negotiations for Albania

EU foreign ministers will gather at a summit in Luxembourg today and are expected to make a decision in regard to the opening of EU accession negotiations for North Macedonia and Albania. In recent media reports it has been said that there may be a chance to postpone negotiations for Albania in the fall, as German officials have recently states as well. Some of the skeptical countries for the opening of negotiations are France and the Netherlands. The latter supports the country for reforms undertaken, but are currently calling the start of negotiations as premature.
We recall that a few weeks ago, the European Commission gave the unconditional recommendation for opening negotiations. Mogherini and Hahn were in Tirana when they delivered the news, and the emphasis was placed on justice reform, in regard to which Commissioner Hahn stated that it was a unique model that should be mirrored by all Western Balkan countries but also from countries in the EU.Today in Luxembourg the theme of the summit is the expansion package with the Western Balkans. Yesterday, before embarking on Luxembourg, European diplomacy chief Federica Mogherini called on the European Council to reach a positive decision on the two countries. / Tiranapost.al
