Prime Minister Rama met with High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Mrs. Federica Mogherini and Jean-Claude Juncker the President of the European Commission. In a joined press release the PM and the President of EU talked about the current situation in Albania regarding the elections.
“90% of the Albanians support the reforms. Reforms are implemented for the benefit of some state institutions but also for the Albanian people to know that the government is trustworthy. There isn’t a stronger reason that this for us to consider continuing this impressive progress. For the European Council, Albania is ready to take the next step. That’s why we asked the EC to give the green light for the negotiations, but first Albania has to overcome a few obstacles. If we tell a country to do this or that, we cannot go back in our word and give them a negative answer. I am in favour for the negotiation process to begin, because I valuated that Albania has fulfilled all the requests, but it is not a secret that a few countries are on the ledge. I assured the PM that I will stick to my declarations and to the report that was delivered. The fight against cannabis is a good example. The importance of a political unity, where all the parties are involved in constructing democratic institutions, is unreplaceable. The elections are set at the end of June. I am interested just as Albania for the results. You cannot stop the people of a country. The elections should be held, if not than you will be postponing the European Perspective of Albania too. That’s why I am happy to hear the PM. I am in favour for the negotiations to start in summer or at the beginning of fall”, said Juncker./Tiranapost/D.D
