Euronews: Albania’s eyes towards EU, approves law against money laundering

Yesterday, the Albanian parliament adopted several laws aimed at fighting money laundering, as an attempt to persuade the European Union to open membership talks. Euronews has published an article stating that as far as negotiations are concerned, it is likely that the European Union will decide in September whether to open negotiations with Albania but also with North Macedonia. Euronews quotes European diplomats who say that North Macedonia is likely to open negotiations, but not Albania, due to concerns over corruption, money laundering, although the justice reform is already being implemented, it has excluded from the system corrupt judges and prosecutors.
International media also cites Finance Minister Anila Denaj who yesterday said that the Moneyval package with five draft laws, fills up all the gaps regarding the law against money laundering and terrorist financing. Under the new laws, businesses must declare new partners, transactions by politicians will be monitored for five years, and a state-confiscated property management agency will be set up in the fight against money laundering. / Euronews / Tiranapost.al.
