    EU urges protest leaders to avoid violence during tonight’s protest


    A few hours before the protests of the DP and the SMI, a message to the leaders of the opposition comes from the EU delegation and the embassies of the European Union Member States in Albania.The official statement calls on the protesters to rally peacefully and in an orderly fashion and authorities to not fall prey to the provocations of the protesters.
    EU Full Declaration:The European Union Delegation and the Embassies of the Member States of the European Union in Albania fully respect the fundamental right of citizens of Albania to protest. However, we reiterate the importance of exercising this right peacefully.We condemn the acts of violence that have occurred in the previous protests and call on the protest leaders and the Albanian authorities to ensure that today’s protests are conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner. All parties involved have the responsibility to guarantee the safety of those on the streets of Tirana tonight. There is no room for violence in a peaceful protest. Law enforcement authorities have the responsibility to act with restraint, even if provoked.For the benefit of Albanian citizens, most of whom want to see the country move forward with the reform process and move towards EU membership, we call on all parties to rely on the existing dialogue offer with the aim of find a way out of the current political situation as an urgent matter. / Tiranapost.al.D.Xh
