This is the second time that the European Commission recommends the opening of accession negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia. In theory, this is old news although it is accompanied by new and often naive hopes that this recommendation would have been postponed, not given or else. There might still be some member countries reluctant to support Albania, so that chaos continues to rule in this side of Europe. It is sufficient to witness the opposition’s destabilizing efforts, although it lacks popular revolt because it has no faith and is even worse targeted by these parties. On the other hand, there is a misunderstanding in regards to the terms and Commission’s modus operandi. One of Tirana Post’s colleagues misread the recommendation as opening of negotiations. Others, rightfully questioned if this was the second recommendation. Yes, this is the second time and no, the talks have not been launched. Negotiations will be opened when every member country will vote on the matter. Today’s news is an old one in theory, but is still a new one in the light of current misunderstandings or ill wishes. The news was delivered by Commissioner Hahn and is a clear sign that political instability does not concern the European community and has not generated any effect over there. Europe wants us. Period! Albania’s political class must overcome its obstacles and find a common ground. Foreigners do not watch our satirical shows, do not read op-eds by our experts, do not dwell on the advantages and disadvantages, those who fire Molotov bombs or those who do not give up on their stance. Europe does the math and today’s message for the judiciary reform seems to be the ace under the sleeve for Albania’s political compass. Furthermore, Balkans is a matter of security. Eduard Kukan spoke clearly when he said that security in the region depends on the interest of Europe and not on its indifference and negligence. This is a day for deep breath. Those political tensions mentioned by Kukan still represent a big obstacle for Albania’s European future. Nevertheless, today we received a good news and let’s learn something from the European tolerance and let’s not hate Albania and each other, just like our enemies. Let’s see ourselves and our country with the optics of our friends.
