    Bust of Fan Noli, initiator of 1924 Coup against Ahmet Zogu, erected in Edirne, Turkey


    Editorial essence / The memorial to the victims of the 2016 coup d’etat in Turkey, set in a subtle ceremony at the Lake Park in Tirana, has sparked heated debates across Albania. On Sunday, Mayor Veliaj reacted by stating that there is nothing wrong with that plaque on a corner of the Lake, and that we must move on. Meanwhile, in Edirne, Turkey, a bust of Fan Noli, who was also a perpetrator of the coup against Ahmet Zogu, in 1924, has been erected.

    A bust of the Orthodox Fan Noli, otherwise known as the initiator of the coup d’etat during the June Revolution of 1924, against Albania’s Muslim monarch Ahmet Zogu, has been erected in Edirne, Turkey, with the country honoring an Albanian personality with this gesture. The bust is the work of sculptor Andrea Demce, and was set up by the Albanian authorities and our diplomats in Turkey, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the 130th anniversary of the birth of revered writer Fan Noli. The inauguration of the bust, saw the participation of high Turkish officials, including the prefect of Edirne and the mayor of Ibrik Tepe. Tiranapost.al
