Breaking News/ Prosecutors call for 12 year jail sentence for former minister Saimir Tahiri

On Tuesday, prosecutors have called for a 12 year prison sentence for former Minister of Interior Affairs, Saimir Tahiri, for corruption of senior officials, drug trafficking conducted in collaboration, and involvement with a structured criminal group, as part of the Habilaj file. Tahiri has repeatedly denied the accusations claiming that the trial against him is politically motivated and he has nothing to do with the charges. Sources for Report TV report that the Serious Crimes Court has accepted the proposal for a shortened sentence for Tahiri, and depending on the court’s ruling, Tahiri is expected to serve 1/3 of the sentence (8 years). The former minister arrived at the Serious Crimes Court this morning at 8:51 am accompanied by his defense attorney Maks Haxhia. Tiranapost.al
