During Wednesday’s meeting with volunteer runners of the Tirana Marathon, the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj focused on the controversy surrounding the Botanical Gardens in Tirana, following the earlier protests of several people claiming that the Garden is being used politically. Veliaj stated that the former head of state and former leader of the democratic party Sali Berisha’s son-in-law, Jamarber Malltezi, as well as the Rector of the University of Tirana, Mynyr Koni, have received orders from higher us to block the projects. Veliaj also claimed that the protests were carried out by those who have now shown their incompetence and abused with the properties in the Botanical Garden area.
“Extraordinary meeting of Jamarber Malltezi, son-in-law of Sali Berisha. How about you assemble in the name science instead, and show the same passion and perseverance. How about you assemble for the reasons you are being paid for by tax payers, rather than for your personal interests, your properties, your tenders”, said Veliaj.
The latter also stated that while the democratic party and allies turned the Botanical Gardens into asphalt and concrete, the current government project plans to do the opposite and rehabilitate the area. Tiranapost.al
